SIU Carbondale’s new contract with Pepsi MidAmerica began September 2025, giving the company exclusive pouring rights on campus. Pepsi MidAmerica has the exclusive right to display, advertise and promote carbonated beverages, fruit drinks, water, bottled iced tea and isotonic drinks on campus and in connection with the university. The partnership provides a financial opportunity for the university to increase its commitment to support student activities and scholarships.
To honor the contract, university students, faculty and staff must follow these guidelines, which apply to all university departments as well as to SIU registered student organizations:
- No other nonalcoholic beverage brand may be distributed at campus events.
- Events held on campus, whether university related or not, must use Pepsi MidAmerica products if beverages are served. If the event utilizes a small quantity of beverages, such as a 12 pack or two, they may be purchased at a local retailer, but they must be products offered by Pepsi MidAmerica.
- Private parties using campus space for events are not allowed to bring products that are not Pepsi brands onto campus. This includes soft drinks, bottled water, isotonic drinks and bottled tea.
- To purchase Pepsi products for use on campus, units need to establish an account with Pepsi MidAmerica, which will honor contract pricing with all SIU units. Contact Tena Bennett, assistant vice chancellor for auxiliary enterprises and student affairs and campus liaison with Pepsi MidAmerica, at tenab@siu.edu to set up a departmental account.
Some products have been excluded from the terms of the contract, including:
- Frozen juice concentrate provided by an approved caterer.
- Hot or brewed coffee, tea (including boba tea) and chocolate.
- Milk and flavored milk drinks and nondairy milk.
- Alcoholic beverages and nonalcoholic beverages marketed under an alcoholic trademark.
- Energy drinks
All vending machines on campus are being serviced by Pepsi MidAmerica. Anyone experiencing problems with a vending machine should contact the 800 number on the machine to report the problem.
If the problem is not remedied or you have other questions, contact Bennett at 618-453-2461 or tenab@siu.edu. Do not call the 800 number for refunds.
There are six locations on campus where refunds can be obtained:
- Student Center – ID card office.
- School of Education dean’s office – Wham Room 115.
- Student Services Building – Suite 486.
- Simmons Law School dean’s office – 232 Lesar Law Building.
- Glenn Poshard Transportation Education Center – Room 146F.
